Let me tell you – working from home is not easy. You got your bed just a room away and access to a stocked refrigerator. This plus your neighbors knowing you work from home and thinking it’s okay to knock on your door at 1pm asking to borrow salt, can make your working environment, well, challenging at times. Little things like this can affect your productivity so I did some research on how to increase my personal productivity and discovered the world of Pomodoro.

Pomodoro is a time management technique to help you be more productive and it works like this. With the help of a timer, you focus on a task for 25 minutes. No social media, no texting – focus, focus, focus! After 25-minutes, you get a 5-minute break. Once the 5-minute break is up, back to working for 25 minutes. These 25-minute intervals are called pomodoros. After you finish your 3rd pomodoro, you get a 20-25 minute break. It’s heaven sent.

  • Pomodoro: 25-minute interval
  • 5-minute break
  • Pomodoro: 25-minute interval
  • 5-minute break
  • Pomodoro: 25-minute interval
  • 20 to 25-minute break

My productivity has soared – it keeps me so focused. Plus, this keeps me on a strict schedule where now I’m having lunch and breaks at the same time every workday.

There’s dozens of pomodoro apps out there that you can use on your phone, however, I personally use an app called Focus Keeper. The app lets me know when it’s time to take a break and when it’s time to work – it’s so easy to use!
