Leadership can be amazing and awful at the same time! As severe as the quote is, I do believe in being seriously serious about taking radical responsibility for success.
Marketing alone will not make you successful. When clients get on my marketing therapy couch at Web Marketing Therapy or join the Rebel Circle program and want to jump blindly into buying ads, setting a strategy or doing social media campaigns, I often get “about to be a danger to themselves and others” vibes and stage serious interventions.
Healthy marketing is essential to the success of any business (large or small), but many times, it’s time to take a hard look at operations, administration and LEADERSHIP first, as all work together to brand, build and boost business.
Operations is not just doing the work you are committed to delivering, but how you do the work, clearly defining the work you want to do and making sure you are charging the right amount for it. Offering stellar customer service and a positive experience is not optional, it’s critical. Administration work includes the unsexy but essential things like having sound contractual agreements, web systems, bill pay, bill collection and managing systems to support your company.
Marketing, when done well, serves to build awareness, share information, educate, create meaningful connections and enhance/support customer service…all to support sales (because we all want to make money honey…right?!).
Great leaders look critically at all areas of business, working with and building dream teams to improve holes and optimize.
For many entrepreneurs, issues with success often lie deeper than marketing, operations and admin issues. Do a deep dive into self-work as you, the leader, are the core of your business.
I can’t tell you how many inspiring women I have worked with who love what they do, but haven’t taken the time to invest in themselves. To succeed professionally, you have to be honest with yourself personally. Make darn sure that your organization is serving you (not just your vendors, employees and clients!)
Is your work nourishing you intellectually, financially and spiritually?
Are you leading in the best way you can be?
I find that if the leader at an organization is not fully aligned with the work they and their company are doing, all the fabulous marketing, ops or admin support isn’t going to get them to where they want to go.
Energy is everything.
The deep stuff is the right stuff to address to brand, build and boost business in a meaningful way so all work (marketing, operations and administrative) matters…AND PAYS.
Self-work can include wellness (fitness, diet, retreats), networking, education, coaching and unplugging to recharge.
